What fencing costs per metre
As a 2026 guide, Colorbond and timber paling fencing typically run from around $80 to $190 per metre installed, aluminium slat from around $150 to $350, and frameless glass pool fencing from around $300 to $800, with Sydney jobs often toward the top of each range. Slope, old fence removal and gates all move the number, and these are guide figures only, never a quote. The full breakdown, including a worked half-share example, is in the fencing cost guide.
Does my neighbour pay half?
Usually, yes. Under the NSW Dividing Fences Act, neighbours generally share the cost of a sufficient dividing fence equally. If you want something fancier than sufficient, the upgrade is normally your cost, and if you cannot agree there is a formal fencing notice process. The practical path is a photo, a quote and a knock on the door. That is general information, not legal advice, and the cost guide walks through the maths.
